Facebook Failure

Author Falsely Defamed by Facebook

for Child Sexual Exploitation

Los Angeles, CA – March 24, 2025 – Andrew Lawrence, a U.S. citizen and an established author, blogger, and fine art photographer, is fighting to restore his reputation after being falsely accused by Facebook of child sexual exploitation. With a creative career spanning decades, Lawrence has authored over 20 nonfiction books, published more than 600 blog posts, and created an online portfolio of 4,000 original fine art photographs. The social media platform’s automated systems erroneously cancelled his account and levied the damaging allegation of child sexual exploitation, which Lawrence vehemently denies. Facebook has been unresponsive to their error and defamation of Andrew Lawrence. All emails by Lawrence to various departments at FB have been ignored.

The false defamation incident underscores growing concerns about the reliability of Facebook’s automated enforcement mechanisms, which have reportedly led to numerous false accusations and account cancellations. Lawrence’s case has sparked a broader conversation about the ethical implications of such errors, particularly when they involve severe and life-altering false allegations.

Key Facts and Figures:

-  On February 21, 2025, Lawrence downloaded the above screenshot and reported the false defamation by Facebook to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the U.S. Attorney General’s office.

- In March 2025, Lawrence is bringing his case to the public, sharing his story with news outlets.

Facebook’s Chief Global Affairs Officer, Joel Kaplan, acknowledged in a January 7, 2025, published statement on Facebook that automated systems have resulted in “too many mistakes” and excessive censorship. But then stated that Facebook will continue using their system for severe violations of the law, and violations of their community standards, like child sexual exploitation.

Having lived in Manhattan and based in Los Angeles since 1987, Lawrence is bringing the Facebook false defamation situation to national attention, involving the media, federal agencies and the public. The false accusation raises critical questions about Facebook’s accountability and the ethical use of automated systems.

“Under my pen name, Andrew Lawrence, I have dedicated my life to improving people’s lives and making the world a better place, by sharing knowledge through my writing and creating art. To be falsely accused of child sexual exploitation, a heinous crime, can ruin a person’s reputation. And their life. At 78 years of age, I am not, and have never been, a child predator, and I will not rest until my name is cleared.”

Lawrence has called on the public, and the Trump Administration, to consider the broader implications of Facebook’s actions: “If this can happen to me, it can happen to anyone. And, according to a Google Search, being falsely accused of child sexual exploitation apparently has happened to a number of Facebook members. Social media platforms must be held accountable for the damaging consequences of their automated systems.”

Andrew Lawrence is willing to accept a $25 million settlement from Facebook, removal of their false accusation of him, and Facebook fixing their faulty automated monitoring system rendering false defamatory actions. Until that happens, he is calling for a worldwide boycott and a government investigation of Facebook.
